Trout to be put in Walla Walla youth fishing pond next week

Lyons Ferry Fish Hatchery near Dayton is scheduled to deliver the first of two loads of trout to Jefferson Park Pond in Walla Walla next week.

A second delivery is scheduled for March 28 or 29. Each truckload holds 500 catchable trout and 50 jumbo trout.

Fishing at Jefferson Park Pond, at 19th Avenue and Malcolm Street, is governed by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The pond is designated as a youth fishing area for children 14 and younger. A fishing permit is not required. Adults are allowed to help bait a hook and remove the fish from the hook but cannot fish, cast the line into the water or hold the rod for a child.

Fishing is allowed year round from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
