Areva's Richland plant workers have reached a milestone of one year without a lost-time accident.
The milestone at the Areva Richland Fuel Manufacturing Facility translates to more than 1.3 million working hours. More than 700 workers are employed at the plant to produce nuclear fuel products and provide related components and services for commercial pressurized water reactor and boiling water reactor customers worldwide.
"We reached this milestone as a result of employees taking ownership for their safety and the safety of their co-workers," Dominique Grandemange, Richland site manager, said in a statement. Nuclear fuel produced in Richland accounts for 5 percent of the electricity generated in the United States.
