Americans fall to Prince George 3-0

March 5, 2013

PRINCE GEORGE, British Columbia — Troy Bourke scored two goals, and Mac Engel stopped all 21 shots he faced as the Prince George Cougars handed the Tri-City Americans a 3-0 loss Tuesday night, snapping a five-game skid at CN Centre.

The Americans (39-24-1-2, 81 points) were shut out for the fourth time this season, but they held onto fourth place in the Western Conference as the Spokane Chiefs (80 points) were idle.

Tri-City failed to pick up its 40th win of the season. The Americans, who host Kootenay on Friday, seek to tie a WHL record for 40 wins in seven consecutive seasons, held by Kamloops (1989-90 to 1995-96) and Regina (1979-80 to 1985-86).

The Cougars (19-38-2-6, 46 points), who are in the hunt for a playoff spot, are six points behind Seattle and Everett with seven games left in the regular season.

Colin Jacobs also scored for Prince George, and Zach Pochiro and Dallas Ehrhardt each had two assists. Engel recorded his second shutout of the season.

Troy Trombley finished with 25 saves for the Americans but suffered his second loss in nine starts.

Tri-City captain Justin Feser, who reached the 100-point mark Monday with a goal and an assist, was held scoreless, ending his streak of points in nine consecutive games.

Earlier in the day, Feser was named WHL Player of the Month for February. He had 12 goals to go with 12 assists and a plus-11 rating. He also set the WHL Ironman record at 312 games.
