KENT — Justin Feser had a goal and two assists, and Drydn Dow, Jesse Mychan and Zach Yuen all had a goal and one assist as the Tri-City Americans beat the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-3 on Saturday night at ShoWare Center.
The Americans (38-23-1-2, 79 points) remain in fifth place in the Western Conference, one point behind Spokane, after the Chiefs defeated Victoria 3-2.
It was the 20th road victory of the season for the Americans.
“There’s a lot of effort in getting those wins,” Tri-City coach Jim Hiller said. “The road is more about character than anything else. We have character and play smart.”
Seattle (22-36-7-1, 52 points), still in the hunt for a playoff spot, is seventh in the West, just point ahead of Everett.
The Thunderbirds opened the scoring with a short-handed goal by Luke Lockhart just 2:44 into the game, only to see Tri-City take a 2-1 lead with goals by Mychan and Dow.
Seattle tied the score at 2-2 in the second before the Americans took a 4-2 lead on goals by Feser — his 40th of the season — and Malte Strömwall. Yuen added an empty-net goal with 1:07 left in the game.
Luke Lee-Knight stopped 25 of 28 shots for Tri-City to improve to 11-8-0-0 on the season.
“I was really proud of our team tonight,” Hiller said. “It was one of those times we had to answer the bell. I think Dowsey (Dow) had his best game ever. We just played well.”
Brandon Glover finished with 26 saves for Seattle, which beat Tri-City 3-1 on Friday.
