State basketball: Kamiakin vs. University live updates

March 2, 2013

Kamiakin 47, University 36, final: The Braves finish off the Titans for the third time this season to capture fourth place at the Class 3A State Tournament at the Tacoma Dome.

The victory wraps up the stellar career of Courtney Nelson. Makayla Guice also played in her last game.

Kamiakin 40, University 22, 4:58 left in fourth quarter: The Braves are getting ever closer to the fourth place trophy.

Sira Toure has three points this quarter for Kamiakin.

Kamiakin 37, University 22, end 3rd quarter: Five quick points by Sira Toure in the final minute of the quarter have stretched the Braves lead out.

Fourth place seems extremely likely at this point, which would be the best finish for Kamiakin during their last three state tournament appearances.

Kamiakin 23, University 15, halftime: UHigh's Brooke Bailey hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to stop a Kamiakin 7-0 run.

The Titans had only scored two points in the quarter before the jumper. Holly Ellison had five points in the quarter and has 10 for the game. Sira Toure has six points and Courtney Nelson has seven.

University's Bailey, a freshman, has seven points, while Kayleigh Valley has six points and nine rebounds.

Kamiakin 16, University 10, 3:15 left second quarter: Both teams are struggling offensively, though the Braves have at least scored this quarter. The Titans have the goose egg so far.

Kamiakin 13, University 10, end first quarter: UHigh's Kayleigh Valley hit a jumper at the buzzer, but otherwise Kamiakin is playing very well.

Courtney Nelson and Holly Ellison each have five points for the braves.

Kamiakin 8, University 4 with 3:30 left: Both teams are scuffling a bit, probably because of the 8 a.m. tipoff. The Braves have hit two 3-pointers — one by Holly Ellison and one by Sira Toure.

Pregame: For the third time this season, Kamiakin and University High will play. This time they are playing for fourth place at the Class 3A State Tournament in the Tacoma Dome.

The Braves (17-5) defeated Mercer Island 57-47 in an elimination game Friday and lost 46-39 to Seattle Prep in the quarterfinals Thursday. University (15-11) lost to Cleveland 60-50 in the quarterfinals and defeated Glacier Peak 49-44 in an elimination game to reach this point.
