State boys basketball: Richland vs. Arlington live updates

February 28, 2013

Arlington 72, Richland 60, Final: The Bombers pulled within 63-55, but couldn't complete the rally.

Richland will be kicking themselves for a long time over how poorly they shot from outside today.

Arlington 63, Richland 49, 4:42 left in the game: The Bombers have pulled within 10 a few times, but the Eagles have stretched it right back out.

Two 3-pointers by Arlington have helped keep Richland at bay. It just hasn't been the Bombers' day.

Arlington 53, Richland 40, end third quarter: Rushed shots, lack of rebounding, and too many turnovers are just a few of the reasons the Bombers hopes of making a run at the state title are in serious doubt.

Richland has made just two 3-pointers in the game, and are starting to get frustrated as breaks are going Arlington's way.

The Bombers are going to have to dig deep to rally out of this hole.

Arlington 43, Richland 36, 3:39 left third quarter: Richland's shooting woes continue. The Bombers have just three Nathan Streufert layups this quarter and continue to struggle from beyond the 3-point line.

Arlington's Noah Jones is dominating, scoring all eight points this period for the Eagles. He has 18 in the game.

Arlington 35, Richland 30, halftime: The Bombers have to be somewhat happy with this first-half score, considering how poorly they shot from behind the arc.

Richland has only made two 3-pointers in the game - both by freshman Steven Beo - and seen many more rim out.

Defensively, Richland is so worried about Arlington star Terry Dawn they are picking him up at halfcourt. He is beating his original man and then doing a good job of passing out to the perimeter for open looks for his teammates.

Dawn had seven points in the second quarter and has 12 in the game.

Beo's 11 points leads Richland, while Mason Hilty and Jacob DeVries have five points each.

Arlington 25, Richland 20, 5:14 left second quarter: The Bombers continue to struggle from beyond the arc, having at least three shots this quarter go in and then come back out.

Richland has also been whistled for eight fouls, putting Arlington into the bonus early on.

Arlington 17, Richland 16, end first quarter: Both teams are feeling each other out. Richland has only hit one 3-pointer and will need to warm up from beyond the arc to win this game.

Nathan Streufert and Terry Dawn are guarding each other and shutting each other down. Dawn has five points, Streufert zero.

Richland 12, Arlington 12, 2:14 left first quarter: Bombers freshman Steven Beo has six points, while Mason Hilty has four.

Richland's Nathan Streufert has yet to score.

Pregame: The Richland boys basketball team was thought to be a year away from contending for a state crown, but the Bombers (19-4) are in Tacoma for the Class 4A state tournament and will open with Arlington.

All of Richland's scoring leaders are juniors or younger, led by Nathan Streufert at 18.3 points per game.

Arlington is making its first state tournament appearance since 1962. Forward Terry Dawn's 19.5 points and 10.0 rebounds leads the Eagles (21-3).

The winner of this game will face the Central Valley-Jackson winner in the state semifinals Friday night.
