Kennewick — The Richland Bomb Squad detonated a homemade pipe bomb Tuesday night in the 800 block of South Juniper Street in Kennewick, police said.
Kennewick police responded to the scene about 10 p.m. to investigate a report from a citizen, who informed officers that a family member recently died and brought several of his personal belongings to his home to go through.
While going through the items, they found some miscellaneous narcotics equipment along with a homemade pipe bomb, police said.
The bomb squad used a robot to retrieve the device and detonate it in a vacant field, due to the danger of moving the explosive through the city, police said.
Kennewick police urge citizens to contact law enforcement immediately if they find a suspected explosive and not to handle the object.
