Hanford High School came out on top at the Department of Energy's Regional Science Bowl at Washington State University Tri-Cities on Saturday.

The members of Hanford's winning team are Sriram Katipamula, Chenguang Li, Sathvik Ramanan, Sean Thompson and Jonah Bartrand.

They went up against Yakima's West Valley High School in the final round, who for the second year, took second place. Another team from Hanford took third place with Woodinville High School out of Seattle placing fourth.

"I knew coming into it that West Valley was going to be the team that we were going up against," said Jonah Bartrand, Hanford junior and team captain.

The winning team advances to DOE's Office of Science National Science Bowl from April 25-29 in Washington D.C.

"Science Bowl meetings aren't going to end," Bartrand said. "We're going to have to study a lot more."
