Rotary club still has tickets for trip to Italy

The Tri-Cities Sunrise Rotary Club still has tickets available for a trip for two to Italy in November to help support the club's efforts to restore the sight of people with cataracts in the Dembi Dolo region of Ethiopia.

The rotary club has about 700 of the 1,000 tickets for the drawing left. The tickets are $50 each. One ticket pays for restoring the sight of one person.

Kennewick ophthalmologist Jim Guzek has performed more than 300 cataract surgeries that have restored sight to the people of Dembi Dolo. A fifth trip is planned in March.

The trip, worth more than $4,000, was donated by Trafalgar, a travel partner of the local American Automobile Association.

Tickets are available at Tri-Cities Sunrise Rotary Club, AAA in Kennewick, Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute and various Tri-City optometrist offices. The last day to buy tickets is Thursday, and the drawing will be Friday.

The amount raised will be matched by Dr. Larry Thomas of Loma Linda, Calif., who recruited Guzek to do the work in Dembi Dolo.
