West Richland — A Kennewick man was arrested Sunday in West Richland after he allegedly pointed a handgun at an off-duty police officer, police said in a press release released today.
Stuart McKenzie was driving a black Toyota pickup with temporary license plates north on Bombing Range Road toward Van Giesen Street when an off-duty Hanford Patrol captain noticed him driving aggressively, according to West Richland police.
The off-duty officer said he looked over at McKenzie when he was stopped at the intersection and saw him pointing a gun at him. The victim called 911, police said.
A Benton County Sheriffs deputy and West Richland sergeant later found the pickup at a home near Jamison Street and 59th Avenue along with McKenzie. He was detained, as were the residents of two homes near his vehicle. Two handguns were found after a search of one of the homes, police said.
McKenzie was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault and booked into the Benton County jail.
