Kamiakin gymnasts second in team competition

The Kamiakin gymnastics team came oh so close to winning its second team title Friday, but fell a point short.

The Braves finished with 179.600 points, while Enumclaw took home the title with 181.050 points.

Kelsey Jaquish took fifth in the all-around with 37.025 points to lead the Braves, while Michelle Fletcher was seventh (36.475) and Saige Polanik (36.2) was eighth. Danielle Brandon took 10th in the all-around with 36.050 points.

Highline’s Kristen Rodal won the all-around with a score of 37.950.

Brandon tied for second in the beam with a score of 9.575, while Jaquish was seventh in the bars with a score of 8.8.

Jaquish was fifth on the floor routine with a score of 9.575, while Fletcher was seventh (9.525) and Polanik ninth (9.5).

Hanford’s Kayla Lasater was third in the bars with a score of 9.225. Lasatter tied for 11th in the beam, scoring 9.05 points. Fletcher tied for 13th (9.0) and Jaquish took 15th (8.95).

The Braves were trying to become just the third Eastern Washington school to win the state gymnastics title since 1979, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Enumclaw, which won the state title last year, was led by Olivia Bannerot’s fourth-place finish in the all-around.

The top competitors in each individual event will compete today at the Tacoma Dome for state titles.
