Girls basketball: Connell earns regional berth with win over Granger

Connell 49, Granger 43: MarciAnne Hawkins scored 15 points and Michelle Schultz added 11 as the Eagles locked up a spot in the Class 1A regional playoffs.

A big second quarter gave Connell some breathing room it didn’t relinquish the rest of the way in the District 5 Tournament elimination game at River View High in Finley.

The Eagles (19-4) will face La Salle, which defeated Mabton 52-39, in the consolation final at 3 p.m. Saturday at River View. The Connell-La Salle matchup will determine the No. 3 and 4 seeds to regionals.

GRANGER — Hertzman 6, Villa 1, Oliveros 4, John 4, Lyndsay Oswalt 15, Carpenter 6, Vasquez 7. Totals 15 10-16 43.

CONNELL — Vickerman 4, MarciAnne Hawkins 15, Easterday 2, Booker 6, Riner 4, Kroontje 2, English 2, Schultz 11, Thompson 2. Totals 17 12-18 49.
