Ex-Connell official's trial delayed until Sept. 25

Published: February 13, 2013

A former Connell official has postponed for seven months her trial on allegations she embezzled at least $160,000 from a Mesa farm.

Monica Lou Pruett, 59, on Tuesday waived her right to a speedy trial and agreed to a Sept. 25 trial date.

She is charged in Franklin County Superior Court with first-degree theft and money laundering.

Both charges include aggravating circumstances that the crime involved a financial loss greater than is typical, involved several incidents and that she abused her position of trust.

Pruett was the city's mayor pro tem when she was charged for her alleged actions while doing bookkeeping through her business, Lierman Business Services.

Prosecutors claim she used checks from D&S Farms to pay her personal and business property taxes and power bills between June 2005 and April 2012.

Pruett resigned from her council position last September.
