As the administration again wrestles with raising the current debt limit, let's recall a quote by then-Sen. Barack Obama in March 2006:
"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America' s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It's a sign that the U.S. government cannot pay its own bills. It's a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership."
So here we are as a nation seven years later, the majority of this once great land being gullible enough to have just re-elected to a second term this spendthrift politician who did so poorly his first term, of whom we know so little about and who has been nothing but a career community organizer/lawyer/politician who still has no clue of where a dollar comes from and who now is proposing to raise the debt limit to unprecedented proportions of the GNP, and he still wants to spend yet more money.
God help us.
