Boys basketball: DeWitt's 3-pointer helps Kennewick eliminate Southridge

Published: February 9, 2013

Larry DeWitt hit a 3-pointer with 2.3 seconds left to help Kennewick stun Southridge in a District 5/8 Tournament play-in game Saturday.

DeWitt’s 3-pointer capped a furious fourth-quarter rally for the Lions, who outscored the host Suns 19-10 in the final period.

“It was tough,” Southridge coach D.J. Traver said. “We were up six to eight points the whole game, but had some turnovers late and missed some free throws and it kind of sunk us.

“We had every opportunity to win, but (Kennewick) scrapped in the fourth quarter and picked up their defense. We just didn’t react the way we would have liked to.”

With the win Kennewick (5-16) travels to face University High of Spokane at 8 p.m. Tuesday in an elimination game. Southridge (7-14) had its season ended.

Nick Haberling’s 11 points led Southridge, while Austin Molt added 10.

Devven Ramos’ 14 points led Kennewick, while Ryan Westover added eight and Mitchell Mueller seven. DeWitt finished with five points.
