Boys: Ashton Pollick, Jr., Richland
The night before his district final in the 200-yard individual medley, Pollick told his mother that he would break former Richland swimmer Tyler Picketts district record in the event.
On Saturday, he made good on his vow, winning in 1 minute, 59.68 seconds and easily beating Picketts mark of 2:00.86.
I kind of threw my fist in the water from the excitement, Pollick said. I was really excited that I broke 2 minutes because thats a big milestone in that race.
Pollick also won the 100 backstroke, defeating teammate Luke Jackson, and swam on the first-place 200-yard medley relay team.
I think Luke and I will have a really good race at state, he said. I know well both get into finals with the times we had at districts.
Pollick has big goals for next weekends state meet in Federal Way. Chief among them is getting down to 1:56 and becoming the school record-holder in the 200 IM.
We werent really rested at all for districts, and theyre just starting to rest us now for state, he said. I think that with actual real resting, I can get that record for the Richland Bombers. Thats my main goal for the meet.

Girls: Haley Martineau, Sr., Columbia (Burbank)
With River View in the house Saturday night, those in the crowd at Columbia (Burbank)s gym were ready for a spirited matchup between the SCAC East rivals.
After the game, Martineau left everyone in awe of her dominating performance on Senior Night.
Martineau shot 8-for-8 from 3-point range in the second half and almost equaled her opponents point total on her own, finishing with 30 points in a 62-34 Columbia (Burbank) victory.
I heard my coach say I hit five in a row, Martineau said. After that, I was kind of shocked that they kept falling.
Martineau, who entered the night averaging about four points a game, didnt expect to be in the spotlight. Shes usually dishing the ball off to her teammates or helping out on defense. But hearing everyone talk about her big scoring night she finished 9-of-9 from the field was a memory she said she would cherish from her senior season.
My team kept me going, she said. They were almost a little more excited than I was.
