Benton County — Benton County Sheriff's deputies today are investigating a report of a burglary in progress off Yakitat Road west of the Interstate 82 interchange, just west of Benton City.

Deputies have approached the doublewide with their guns drawn about 12:30 p.m. on the 21000 block Weszt Yakitat Road. The K9 unit also was dispatched.

Seven deputies are at the scene and an ambulance from Benton City is staged near the home.

Initial reports are that the elderly resident came home and found a backpack with possible burglary tools and weapons inside and their front door locked from the inside.

Nobody was in the home when deputies went inside. Nothing was found disturbed inside the home, officials told the Herald. No arrests were made.
