Boys basketball: Walla Walla ends Chiawana's season

Published: February 5, 2013

Tanner Cranor scored 21 points and Gabe Porter added 19 as Walla Walla ended visiting Chiawana’s season with a 58-51 victory Tuesday.

The Blue Devils used big second and fourth quarters to rally past the Riverhawks in the first round of the Class 4A District 5 Tournament.

“In the second and fourth, we really struggled to score the ball,” Chiawana coach Chad Herron said. “Some of the things we struggled with all year bore their ugly heads.”

With the win, Walla Walla will play at Pasco at 7 p.m. Friday in another elimination game. The winner of that game will play Richland for the district title, and earn a berth to the District 5/8 Tournament against the Spokane schools.

“I think we got some defensive stops in the fourth quarter and were able to stretch the lead a little bit,” Walla Walla coach John Golden said.

Wesley Henderson’s 19 points led Chiawana, while Cayden Cazier added nine. Aaric Wren finished with seven points and Victor Koval had four points and six rebounds.
