Richland resident hits pedestrian in The Dalles

A 38-year-old Richland resident was behind the wheel of a van that struck a pedestrian in The Dalles on Friday night, authorities said.

Fadi H. Akoam was driving west on Interstate 84 about 6:30 p.m. when Joren Judah Harwood, 25, of The Dalles tried to cross the freeway and was hit, the state police said.

Harwood was flown to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland with serious injuries, police said. No one in the van was hurt.

State troopers are investigating the wreck.
