Ams stay hot on road

TRI-CITY HERALDFebruary 2, 2013

Justin Feser and Malte Strömwall scored in the shootout to lead the Tri-City Americans to a 2-1 victory Friday night over the host Everett Silvertips at Comcast Arena.

The Americans (30-19-1-2, 63 points), with their 17th road win, moved into fourth place in the Western Conference, one point ahead of Spokane, which dropped a 7-4 game at Kamloops on Friday.

Everett (21-28-1-3, 46 points) remained in seventh place in the Western Conference, four points in front of eighth place Seattle.

The Americans wasted no time putting the puck in the net as Strömwall, with a nice pass from Feser, beat Daniel Cotton high blocker side for his 15th goal of the season and a 1-0 lead just 23 seconds into the game.

From there, Tri-City failed to get the puck past the Everett netminder until the shootout.

With goals hard to come by, the Americans got a big boost from their penalty kill, which killed off six Everett power plays.

The Silvertips failed to capitalize on their power-play opportunities in the second, going 0-for-4. Everett had 1:29 left on its fifth power play going into the third, but again came up empty against Luke Lee-Knight.

Everett tied the score at 4:25 of the third as Logan Aasman redirected a shot by Landon Oslanski for his second goal of the season.

The Americans threw 10 shots at Cotton in the third but couldn't put the puck in the net. Cotton finished with 24 saves.

Lee-Knight had 21 saves before stopping Cole MacDonald and Aasman in the shootout.

The Americans are 6-1-0-1 against the Silvertips this year.
