Richland boys start strong at district swim championships

February 1, 2013

The Richland Bombers left little room for others at the top on the first day of the District 5/6/7 Boys High School Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday in Ellensburg.

Corey Bradshaw, Taylor Armstrong and Scott Francis went 1-2-3 in the Class 4A 100-yard freestyle, while Ashton Pollick, Luke Jackson and Andrew Blanchard took the top three spots in the 100 backstroke.

Pollick finished ahead of Moses Lake’s Kaelan Connacher in the 200 individual medley, while Armstrong led the way in the 50 free.

Armstrong also anchored Richland to first place in the 200 free relay.

Walla Walla had top times by Patrick Giedeman, who dropped his 500 free time to 4 minutes, 55.90 seconds, and the 200 medley and 400 free relays.

Giedeman qualified for state in the 200 free (1:50.32) and will be joined in Federal Way by teammate Russell Skorina, who got his state cut in the 100 butterfly with his third-place time of 55.20.

In Class 2A, Prosser’s Will Burgett swam a season-best 22.11 seconds in the 50 free and was first in the 100 breaststroke.
