The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association released the draws for the basketball regionals Tuesday.

And the release wasn’t without controversy.

The No. 2 seed from the Class 4A Mid-Columbia Conference/Greater Spokane League sub-regional tournament will travel to Puyallup for its regional game. The girls play on Friday, Feb. 22, and the boys on Saturday, Feb. 23.

So, for example, the Richland boys team would play at Rogers High School in Puyallup on Feb. 23. If the Bombers then won that game, they would travel back to the west side the following Wednesday for the state tournament at the Tacoma Dome on Thursday, Feb. 28.

The No. 1 seed from the 4A sub-regional will play in Wenatchee and will be joined by teams from the CBBN, Tacoma and the Everett area.

The Mid-Columbia Class 3A teams would play at University High in Spokane if they advance, while the CWAC 2A teams will play at Central Washington University.

The SCAC qualifiers will be split, with the Nos. 1 and 3 seeds playing at West Valley High in Yakima and the Nos. 2 and 4 seeds playing at Central Valley in Spokane.

The Southeast 2B schools also would be split with their Northeast counterparts. The Nos. 1 and 2 seeds will play at Mt. Spokane High, the No. 3 seed will play at Sunnyside High, and the No. 4 seed will travel to Mountlake Terrace High.

The Southeast 1B schools will be scattered a bit. For the girls, the No. 3 seed will go to Lynnwood, while the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds will be at Walla Walla High. On the boys side, District 9 only gets two teams in, and both will play at Walla Walla.
