Letter: Vista Field study points to airport's closure as best option

Published: January 29, 2013

The Vista Field study makes it pretty clear: The alternatives are to spend a lot of money hoping to develop an "aerotropolis" and lose more money each year running it, or spend a lot less money closing the airfield and making the land ready for millions in economic activity and new tax revenue through redevelopment.

If the two options were close, I'd be pushing the Port of Kennewick to hold an election and let the voters decide. It isn't close. The port commissioners were elected to be good stewards of the taxpayers' money. They should vote once-and-for-all to close the airfield and get about the business of developing the entertainment, retail and professional center of the new century.
