I am writing this because I feel the need to encourage Richland voters to seriously consider the bond issue that is on the ballot.
I am a West Richland resident of 12 years, and my daughter currently attends Lewis & Clark Elementary in Richland. My daughter will not benefit from the new construction, because years will be needed to complete the proposed bond work. Regardless, I support the bond because we owe it to the children in this community: safe and adequate schools.
We have an opportunity to invest in what our community will look like in 15 years. Even more importantly, we have an opportunity to enhance the educational environment of our children.
As our community continues to grow, we need to make sure our school buildings can safely accommodate the number of students enrolled.
Let's not make short-sighted mistakes that others have made by neglecting our schools.
A "yes" vote by Feb. 14 speaks volumes that we want to live in a community that values our educational facilities and ultimately the education of our future leaders.
I hope you will vote "yes" for the bond Issue.
