Fast Focus 'How should the state finance good roads?' Raise gas tax if needed

January 27, 2013

I'm totally against the idea of using odometers to gauge taxes. I ride a bike to work most of the time, so that would save me some money; however, I like to travel a lot and most of my mileage would be out of state. So those who live in Oregon and work in Washington would be exempt once more?

I'm OK with toll roads; they work back in the Midwest and East coast. You drive them; you pay for them as you go.

We have the best roads in the country. I don't have a problem with the gas tax. Raise it to keep the roads in excellent shape. If you need to change something -- it's in how the money is invested and spent.
