Outdoors calendar for Jan. 24, 2013

-- The Blue Mountain Audubon Society will hold a field trip starting 9 a.m. Saturday to Rooks Park and Mill Creek in Walla Walla.

The group will meet at the Harper Joy Theatre Parking Lot at 9 a.m. and carpool. Call 525-2963.

-- Kennewick REI is holding a White Pass cross-country ski and snowshoe jamboree Jan. 26. Go to bit.ly/Xevm1m for more information.

-- The Columbia Basin chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society will meet 7 p.m., Feb. 6 at Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Room TD 439. Lorraine Seymour, an entomologist with the WSU Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center in Prosser, will feature a talk on native plants, insects and wine grapes.

-- The Intermountain Alpine Club will hold an overnight trip Jan. 26-27 to Gold Hill Cabin east of Chinook Pass.

There will be snowshoeing, ski touring and ski mountaineering. Call Jim at 943-3992.

The club also will hold cross country ski trips:

-- Saturday to Spout Springs. Call George at 943-5257.

-- Jan. 27 to Nine Mile Ridge at the Andies Prairie snopark. The group will ski to Horseshoe Prairie. Call Paul at 586-8175.

-- Feb. 2 to Griffin Peak near Bluewood. Call Paul at 586-8175.

-- Feb. 9 to Middle Ridge at the Andies Prairie SnoPark. Call Jim at 943-3992.

-- Feb. 16 from Mineral Spring to Red Top Mountain near Blewett Pass. Call Steve at 943-8688.

-- Feb. 23 at White Pass. Call George at 943-5257.

The club also has several snowshoeing trips planned:

-- Feb. 23 to Meacham Divide, in the Blue Mountains south of Pendleton. Call Chuck at 783-3246.

-- March 2 to Dark Meadows Trail in the White Pass area. Call Jane at 380-0287.

-- March 16 to Pleasant Valley Loop in the Chinook Pass area. Call Chuck at 783-3246.

-- The Colyak Bowhunters will hold two 3-D shoot events.

The sagebrush shoot event begins at 10 a.m. Feb. 2.

The course closes at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 3.

Registration for traditional shoot event opens at 7 a.m. March 30 and the course closes at 5 p.m.

Registration opens again at 7 a.m. March 31 and the course closes at 2:30 p.m.

Both events will take place at the archery range on Hall Road, Richland.

-- Rick Hafele and Skip Morris are offering a fly-fishing workshop on "Mastering Western Rivers and Lakes" will be held March 16-17 in Ellensburg.

Hafele is an aquatic entomologist. Morris is a fly-fishing expert.

Participants will learn about what insects, rods, reels, lines and leaders to use.

The cost is $165 for both days, or $90 for one day.
