Marriott hotel opening at Columbia Point in Richland Jan. 31

A Columbia Point hotel planned since 2008 is finally opening next week.

Officials announced Tuesday that TownePlace Suites by Marriott will open at 591 Columbia Point Drive on Jan. 31.

The $6.5 million, 90-room hotel is owned and managed by InterMountain Management of Louisiana, a company that works with Marriott.

InterMountain Management had bought the land at Columbia Point from the city in 2008, but the plans for a Marriott franchise stalled when the recession hit and financing dried up.

The hotel, across Columbia Point Drive from the Anthony's at Columbia Point restaurant, is designed to serve those who are visiting the community for an extended time.

The hotel includes studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites with kitchens and separate living/working and sleeping areas, according to TownePlace Suite officials.

"Providing an upscale residential atmosphere, this TownePlace Suites hotel offers an appealing alternative to more standard hotel rooms designed for shorter stays," said Loren Nalewanski, TownePlace Suite vice president and global brand manager, in a news release.

Other hotel amenities include an exercise room, an indoor swimming pool, complimentary wireless internet, and onsite business services, including copying, faxing and printing, according to TownePlace Suite officials.
