Letter: Gun-control debate fails to focus on real causes of violence

Published: January 23, 2013

Chicago mayor and former Obama chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, concerning the 2008 financial melt-down, famously stated, "You never want to let a good crisis go to waste."

More recently Chris Matthews, MSNBC television commentator, left-wing political hack and Obama worshipper, referencing the disastrous Hurricane Sandy, declared he was "so glad we had that storm last week." Admitting later he had badly bungled the optics of his excited utterance, he was quickly forgiven by the liberal elite because his intention was righteous -- ostensibly affirming the consequences of manmade "climate change."

Now in the aftermath of the tragic Sandy Hook school shootings, the ghouls in the Obama administration, MSNBC, and CNN see this as yet another "good crisis" with a silver lining. They can leverage the heinous murders of 20 little children and advance their long-held passion to demonize responsible gun owners, confiscate privately owned firearms, and destroy the Second Amendment.

Notably, scant blame is leveled at the true sources of this carnage -- America's societal self-alienation from God and the decline of the traditional nuclear family, Hollywood and media glorification of violence, inadequately treated mental disorders, alcohol and drug abuse, and locally, the rise and effect of violent youth gangs.
