Girls basketball: Richland upsets Hanford behind Pringle's 23

The Richland girls basketball team played one of its best games of the season, sparking a 55-43 upset of Hanford on Friday in Mid-Columbia Conference action at Art Dawald Gymnasium.

Britney Pringle scored 23 points and had five rebounds, while Hailey Turner added 15 points and 10 rebounds.

“You can just tell the way they’ve been playing the last few games, they are starting to trust each other a little more,” Richland coach Cindy McCoy said. “That is a big part of us getting to playing at the level we need to.” Kennedy Corrigan added seven points and 10 assists for Richland.

Colette Gall’s 18 points led Hanford.

Kamiakin 60, Southridge 35: Courtney Nelson and Amanda Miller had big nights for the short-handed Braves in a Mid-Columbia Conference home victory.

Nelson scored 24 points and dished out 10 assists, while Miller had 13 points and 10 rebounds as Kamiakin played without star Sira Toure. Toure hurt her knee last weekend, and will miss both games this weekend, though is expected back Tuesday.

“Amanda really stepped up with the her rebounding and the scoring,” Kamiakin coach Lane Schumacher said.

Starter Holly Ellison also was knocked out by an injury after getting kneed in the leg. She missed the second half.

Shyler Sullivan and Jaid Harris each scored eight points to lead Southridge.

Chiawana 60, Kennewick 32: The Hodgins sisters — Braydey and Delaney — helped power the Riverhawks to a home victory over the Lions.

Braydey, a freshman, scored 15 points, while Delaney, a junior, had 12.

“Braydey Hodgins coming off the bench and giving us tons of energy, that was huge,” Chiawana coach Steve Davis said.

Sierra Perez had 11 points for the Riverhawks, who led by five at halftime before outscoring the Lions 16-2 in the third quarter to pull away.

Panisesi Taimani was the lone scorer in double figures for Kennewick, finishing with 18 points.

Walla Walla 59, Pasco 16: Mikayla Ferenz scored 17 points and Madi Doepker added 14 points and four rebounds as the Blue Devils overpowered the host Bulldogs in Mid-Columbia Conference action.

Walla Walla led 23-0 after the first quarter and 43-4 at halftime.

Brittany Cruz’s five points led Pasco.

Moses Lake 56, Sunnyside 45: In a matchup of the CBBN’s top teams, the visiting Chiefs prevailed behind 20 points from McKenna Walker.

Moses Lake entered the game with the best record in the league, and Sunnyside was a game back.

Jordan Rodriguez’s 19 points, seven rebounds and two assists led the Grizzlies, while Monique Willingham added 11 points, nine rebounds and two assists.
