Wenatchee Valley men sneak past CBC in NWAACC East play

January 16, 2013

The Columbia Basin College men’s basketball team had four players score in double figures, but it wasn’t enough Wednesday night as the visiting Wenatchee Valley Knights came back to defeat the Hawks 78-70 in East Region play.

The teams, both struggling at the bottom of the East standings, changed the lead four times and were tied on six other occasions.

“When you go 12-for-22 from the free throw line, it’s tough,” said CBC coach Rolando Garcia. “I just want a win for these guys. We have just got to keep plugging away.”

DeVontae Harrell led the Hawks (1-13 overall, 0-4 East Region) with 17 points, while Jerid Ronquillo added 16. Shaugnessy Mahoney had a double-double for CBC, scoring 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Kylert DeWitt added 10 points for the Hawks.

Patrick Manning and Jordan Perry each had 18 points for the Knights (7-10, 1-3).
