Bowling: Kennewick tops Pasco in matchup of Mid-Col's best teams

In a matchup of the top two bowling teams in the Mid-Columbia Conference, the Kennewick Lions again got the upper hand on the Pasco Bulldogs.

Xochitl Garcia bowled a 197-220, and Karissa Shiflet had a 190-217 to help the Lions improve to 13-0 with a 3-1 victory over Pasco on Thursday night at Spare Time Lanes.

“The girls are really improving, which is great,” Kennewick coach Oscar Garnica said. “This is the perfect time with districts around the corner.”

Neydeen Martinez had a 204-190, and Mariko Sital rolled a 202 in the second scratch game for Pasco (10-3), which leads fellow Class 4A teams Chiawana and Richland in the Mid-Col with two matches left.

The Bulldogs beat Kennewick 192-175 in the first baker game and just lost the second game, 179-178, but the Lions racked up a pin count of 2,164 to Pasco’s 2,062.

Kennewick will visit Hanford on Tuesday before ending the regular season next Thursday with a home match against Connell. The Class 2A/3A district tournament is scheduled for Jan. 23 in Yakima.

Richland 3, Connell 1: On senior night, it was freshman Mekenzie Richardson who stole the show for the Bombers.

Richardson rolled a match high 224 in the first scratch game, and followed up with a 195 as Richland knocked off Connell in Mid-Columbia Conference action. Dyoni Shuster’s 134-140 led the Eagles.
