Wrestling: Jones, Garza help Kennewick rally past Kamiakin

Trailing by three after a trio of forfeits, Anthony Jones and Emmanuel Garcia won by pin to help host Kennewick pick up a 42-33 Mid-Columbia Conference dual victory over Kamiakin on Thursday.

Jones pinned Kamiakin’s Joseph Hernandez in 1:07 at 152 pounds, and Garcia pinned Sam Borisch in 1:39 at 160 pounds to get the win.

Kennewick’s Michael Etherton opened the match with a 13-9 decision over Colton Deleon. Etherton was wrestling up a weight.

Richland 45, Pasco 22: The Bombers picked up five pins to cruise past the host Bulldogs in a Mid-Columbia Conference dual.

Tamika Pierce (106 pounds), Alex Webb (120), Edwin Gaston (182), Cody O’Toole (195) and Tyson Chiles (220) all won by pin for Richland.

Patrick Torres (113) had a strong match for Pasco, winning by pin, while Timmy Martinez moved to 22-0 winning by pin at 126 pounds.

Chiawana 62, Walla Walla 6: Chiawana heavyweight Martin Villanueva pulled an upset, pinning state-ranked Quinn Piver in 5 minutes, 25 seconds to help lead the host Riverhawks (5-0) to yet another big victory.

“We’ve scored over 50 points in all of our duals,” Chiawana coach Jack Anderson said. “This was a great win for us. We just need to keep this momentum going through the rest of the season.”

Austen Silvers got a 15-0 technical fall against Zane Henderson at 182 pounds, and Joel Murillo (138) and Clayton Smith (152) earned major decisions, but Villanueva’s victory over Piver was a highlight of the night.

“That was the No. 1 seed in our league,” Anderson said. “Martin has lost to him multiple times, so this was a big win for him.”

Will Babbit (126) and Logan Reardon (220) won for Walla Walla.

River View splits nonconference duals: Panthers heavyweight Kyle Hall, ranked No. 3 in the state, picked up a solid victory over the No. 4 ranked wrestler in Zillah’s Jeremiah Atkins.

Hall won the match by pin in 1:35, but River View lost 48-24 to the Leopards.

In the first match, River View topped Cle Elum/Roslyn 51-18 picking up six forfeits.

Danny Tracy won by decision 8-5 at 152 pounds, drawing praise from coach Rick McLaughlin.
