Girls basketball: Top teams matchup in Mid-Col play tonight

Published: January 10, 2013

The Mid-Columbia Conference hits the midway point tonight and the top four teams all play.

Kamiakin (5-1, 10-2) hosts Walla Walla (5-1, 9-1), while Chiawana (5-1, 7-5) hosts Hanford (5-1, 7-5).

It’s a fitting way to wrap up the first half of the season, as the four teams are clearly the best in the league.

The race for the top seed between Class 4A teams Chiawana and Walla Walla is important, because the winner only has to win one district tournament game to reach the regional tournament with the Greater Spokane League teams.

In Class 3A, all four teams advance to a district/regional tournament, with the top two hosting GSL teams and the other two going on the road.

The wild card in Class 3A is Sunnyside, which will be seeded based on league winning percentage. The Grizzlies are 4-2 in CBBN play and conceivably could crack the top two seeds.

Sunnyside hosts Wenatchee (1-5, 1-9) at 5:45 p.m. today.

The other Mid-Columbia games are: Southridge (1-5, 4-7) at Richland (2-4, 4-8) and Pasco (0-6, 0-11) at Kennewick (1-5, 3-8).
