Beau McCue broke a 1-1 tie just 30 seconds into the third period Wednesday as the Tri-City Americans defeated the Kamloops Blazers 3-1 in Western Hockey League action.

Michal Plutnar and Justin Feser, into an empty net, also scored for the Americans (23-15-3).

Tim Bozon replied for the Blazers (28-11-4), who saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.

Tri-City goaltender Eric Comrie stopped 34 shots to get the win — his 20th of the season. Cole Cheveldave of the Blazers had 24 saves in taking the loss.

The victory keeps the Americans in third place in the Western Conference’s U.S. Division, six points behind the Spokane Chiefs, who defeated Seattle 4-1. Portland still leads the division with 71 points, after beating Prince George 3-0.
