GRANDVIEW -- The changing of the guard has begun.

Grandview has promoted Sgt. Kal Fuller to assistant police chief, replacing the retiring Mark Ware.

It's just the first change on the way for Grandview, a city of 9,200 that takes pride in the longevity of employees and some elected officials.

Within the next two or three years, the city faces the retirements of four top-level administrators with about 150 years of combined experience.

Ware will retire at the end of this month, giving Fuller a 30-day training overlap, said Cus Arteaga, city administrator and public works director.

Treasurer John Myers also is scheduled to retire at the end of this month. The city is searching for a replacement now, Arteaga said.

In December, Police Chief Dave Charvet will hang it up. Finally, Arteaga himself will call it quits in December 2014 or 2015 -- he hasn't decided which.

The four administrators each have between 35 and 40 years with the city. "All us old-timers," Arteaga said.

Fuller will be introduced at Tuesday's City Council meeting, 7 p.m. at City Hall.

The council also will resume discussions about asking voters for an increase in private utility taxes.
