I was disappointed that Chief Justice John Roberts did not even make the top five in Time Magazine's "Person of the Year" selections.
Justice Roberts should have been right at the top for his wisdom and courage in acknowledging and reinforcing the Founding Fathers' belief in the supremacy of the legislative and executive branches of this government over the judicial branch.
It is almost certain that he opposes the substance of the inappropriately labeled health-care law termed "Obamacare," but his dedication to uphold the Constitution prevailed. His action was about as anti-activist as one could want or imagine.
It's amusing that here in the Tri-Cities, Justice Roberts will now probably be as welcome as the proverbial skunk at a garden party. We have lots of alleged constitutional experts here, and I'm sure every single one of them was outraged by Justice Roberts' decision.
Obviously, as a devout progressive, I was delighted by the decision, but I was even more delighted by his reaffirmation of genuine constitutional values that are the foundation of this nation.
The Founding Fathers never intended that one person could overturn the judgment of all of our elected leaders unless there was absolutely clear justification. I hope future courts will live up to Justice Roberts' example.
