Light the way

ARCHIE L PITTMAN, Kennewick

I have coffee each weekday with a couple of friends. These two lack the Christmas spirit. I consider them to be Bah-humbug-Scrooge types, and I think they need some incentive to get them into the holiday spirit.

Nether of them put out a display of outdoor lights. I have noticed many people have not put up holiday lights on their property. I am proposing the Benton County PUD adopt the following program: Those of us that put up lights should get a 20 percent discount on our electric bill for the month of December. Those who do not put up lights should have a 20 percent increase on their bill.

I am willing to drive around Benton County and check for the slackers who do not put up lights. Can you imagine how wonderful it would be if every house had Christmas light? My two coffee buddies will be at the top of the list.

I am willing to provide this service free of charge and I will be the judge on whether you have enough lights to qualify for discount. My two friends need a boost, and if it affects their wallets, they will see the light.
