Feedlot plan misguided

JOHN HAMILTON, West Richland

It has come to my attention that a feedlot has been proposed on the foothills of Rattlesnake Mountain almost directly north of Prosser. This can be verified by checking the Benton County Planning Department website and selecting the board of adjustment public hearing notices.

I would suggest that the wine visitors center in Prosser is at risk because of the smell potential. I wouldn't want to stop on certain days and neither will anyone else.

The McWhorter ranch has been targeted by the state for land purchase and suggested uses include horseback riding, hiking and bike riding. Who would want to do that with a lung full of feedlot odor?

There is the potential for ground water contamination and air quality issues. Contact the Benton County Planning Department to make comments before Wednesday as that is the deadline.
