In regard to young Earth creationism: How sad it is that a large portion of the Christian and non-Christian population has been duped into accepting the false premise that evolution and creationism are mutually exclusive concepts.
In fact, evolution theory doesn't say anything about God. The oxymoron "creation science" actually itself evolved to counter false atheistic evolution doctrine. The irony is that in their zeal to stick up for God, young Earthers are diminishing Christianity.
How many scientists feel God pulling at their souls, yet are afraid to embrace him, believing that to do so means they must reject their science? How many of our young people shun the scientific disciplines because they have been told by their pastors they can't be a Christian without disregarding a substantial portion of the information they would be taught?
Fortunately, there is a way to reconcile evolution and an old Earth with our religion and in doing so, open whole new vistas regarding the majesty of God and his creation.
One of the leaders of this renaissance is Francis Collins, and I believe his excellent book The Language of God should be required reading for every high school student in America.
