Christmas sign dispute

December 25, 2012

PEG ROBINSON, Pasco

As a Mediterranean Villas resident, the homeowners association rules are more than rules. They are promises we make to each of our neighbors when we purchase a home in this neighborhood. Abiding by the rules is honoring those promises and is a sign of respect.

The president of the homeowners association is expected to bring to our attention any violation of community rules so we can correct the situation.

I appreciate Margaret Jacobson notifying Tim Meeker that the size of his sign is not in compliance with an established rule so that he has the opportunity to correct the situation.

I thank the Tri-City Herald for publishing the editorial, "Sign's message irrelevant in neighborhood dispute," in the Dec. 14 paper. This editorial presents a more balanced view than what appeared earlier in the week on the front page of the Tri-City Herald and on, I was told, one or more of the local TV news programs.

Editor's note: The editorial Robinson's letter refers to is available online at tinyurl.com/TCH-Sign.

Tri-City Herald is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
