WALLA WALLA -- A 91-year-old Waitsburg man was injured Monday afternoon when he tried to cross Highway 12 into the path of an oncoming car.
William H. Payne was on Lower Waitsburg Road in Walla Walla when he tried to drive across the highway in his silver 1999 Buick.
Payne failed to yield to a 1996 Toyota Camry that was headed west on the highway in the right lane, said the Washington State Patrol.
The Toyota, driven by James C. Keown, hit the Buick on the driver's side.
Payne was taken to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. Keown, 33, of Milton-Freewater, Ore., was not hurt in the 1:34 p.m. collision.
Both men were wearing seat belts, the state patrol reported.
