Richland tops Hanford in neighborhood rumble

Richland got pins from Tamika Pierce (106 pounds), Mitch Beiber (120), Justin WEbb (126) and Cody O'Toole (220) to open the door for the Bombers' 38-27 win over the Hanford Falcons on Thursday night at Art Dawald Gym.

The Bombers improved to 2-0 in Mid-Columbia duals.

Pierce, who placed third at the Connell girls tournament last weekend, stopped her match in 30 seconds.

Hanford state veteran Will Bishop pinned Tyson Childs in 3:24 at 195 to lead the Falcons.

Among the most entertaining matches was Pryce Seely's 16-10 victory over Hanford's Brennan Rains at 138.

Kennewick 42, Walla Walla 36: Robby Calvert stopped the Blue Devils' 24-6 run with a pin for the Lions at 285, and Anthony Jones closed the deal with a pin at 152 in the final match as Kennewick won a Mid-Col match on the road.

Wa-Hi opened with pins from Zack Anderson (160), Zane Henderson (182), Aaron Campos (195) and Logan Reardon (220) for the big start.

Calvert's second-period pin started a run of six wins in seven matches for the Lions, four of those netting six team points via pin or forfeit.

Ty Smith scored a key pin at 138 to give Kennewick a six-point lead before the Lions had to give it right back with a forfeit at 145. Then Jones delivered in the clutch.

"It was going to be who got the last pin tonight," said Kennewick coach Dwane Sitler, noting that only two matches went the distance.

SCAC at Burbank: Kiona-Benton swept a pair of East matches from host Columbia and River View and also won the top individual matchup of the night as Cody Zyph, wrestling up from 220, knocked off River View's Kyle Hall with a second-period pin at 285 in a battle of second-ranked wrestlers at their respective weights.

Burbank and River View each topped Mabton in nonleague SCAC crossovers.
