Before spending a lot of time and effort on immigration reform, I believe our congressional leaders should take some time to review the existing laws and see how well we are enforcing those. Do we need immigration reform or enforcement?
That having been said, I do not favor granting amnesty to the nearly 11 million illegals who are in this country. There is a process for obtaining citizenship and these 11 million illegals should not move to the front of the line just because they are here already. I do believe that we need to change the laws regarding those born in the U.S. to illegals. Granting citizenship on this basis only encourages illegals to enter the country to have their babies.
It is clear that we have an immigration problem, which also results in a fiscal problem. As the U.S. deals with the massive debt our president has established, things such as welfare, Social Security and child tax credit benefits to illegals need to be carefully considered.
