More money was raised in Richland -- $6,000 -- for the Honoring Our History World War I traveling exhibit than in 74 other communities.

The exhibit raised a total of $165,000, traveled 45,000 miles across most of the country and provided awareness for the National World War I Museum.

Financial services firm Waddell & Reed, founded in l937 by two World War I veterans, brought the tour to town as part of its 75th anniversary celebration and it stopped in Richland in May 2011.

Among the 66 artifacts on the tour were firm founder Chauncey Waddell's flight suit, gear and log book. Other items included weapons, tools, flags and posters.

A custom 18-wheel "big rig" truck was transformed into a traveling gallery that visited Waddell & Reed communities across the country.

Money raised at each location was split evenly between the local institution, in Richland it was the CREHST museum, and the national museum in Kansas City, Mo.
