Walter Clore Wine & Culinary Center

A grand opening was held June 30, 2011 at the Walter Clore Wine & Culinary Center Outdoor Event Facility in Prosser. Dr. Clore worked at Washington State University Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center in Prosser and had a major influence on growers, city and state officials to see the area as a viable wine producing area competitive with the world's finest wine producing countries.

PROSSER, Wash. -- A Nevada-based construction company will build the Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center.

Port of Benton commissioners Monday agreed to award the construction contract to Burke Construction Group, which has an office in Spokane. Sixteen bids were received earlier this month and Burke was the low bidder, said Diahann Howard, director of economic development and governmental affairs for the port.

The contract is for about $3.2 million. The center will be 14,900 square feet, with a 4,000-square-foot outdoor patio. It will tell the story of the state's wine industry and honor Clore, a research scientist and wine industry pioneer.
