1989: Chip Pierce of Kennewick won the 20th annual Seattle Marathon, finishing the 26.2-mile race in 2 hours, 25 minutes, 56 seconds. Pierce, who ran at Washington State University, won by 3 minutes.
1983: The Kennewick Lions scored all seven of their touchdowns on breakaway plays in a 49-21 win over No. 1 South Kitsap in the AAA semifinals at Fran Rish Stadium in Richland, earning the programs first (and only) berth to the Kingbowl. Mike Johnson scoerd on 38- and 32-yard runs and a 75-yard punt return, and Kennewick also reached hte end zone on Don Odegard's 75-yard kickoff return, Kirk Holle's 60-yard pass from John Mansfield and Mansfield's 78-yard keeper. But the back-breaker was Josh Schrecengost's 23-yard return of a fumbled snap in the fourth quarter.
