Congrats to Don Nachbaur on coaching 1,000 games in the WHL

November 23, 2012

Tonight, Spokane coach Don Nachbaur will coach his 999th game in the WHL against the Tri-City Americans — his former team. No. 1,000 on Saturday, also will be against Tri-City, only at Spokane Arena.

Nachbaur started his WHL coaching career in Seattle in 1994 and was with the Thunderbirds until 2000.

He took over the Tri-City Americans in 2003 and was with the team until the end of the 2008-09 season, when he left for the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League.

Nachbaur was with Binghamton for one season before leaving. Then, he took the head coaching job at Spokane, where he's in his third season with the Chiefs.

While with Tri-City, he led the Americans to their first U.S. Division banner in 2008.

During his career with Tri-City, he coached the likes of Shawn Belle, Clayton Stoner, Tyler Weiman, Carey Price, Colton Yellow Horn, Taylor Procyshen, Kruise Reddick, Jarrett Toll and Chet Pickard, just to name a few.

Congratulations Don. You taught me about the game you love and I forever will be grateful.

Here are a few photos from his career with Tri-City and one from Spokane (when he went to the dark side).
