Smiley to sign books Nov. 24 in Kennewick

Published: November 22, 2012

Captain Scotty Smiley will sign copies of his book, Hope Unseen, from noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 24 at Barnes & Noble Booksellers at Columbia Center mall in Kennewick.

Smiley, a 1999 Pasco High graduate, became the Army's first blind active-duty officer after he lost his eyesight in a 2005 explosion while serving in Iraq. The explosion was triggered by a suicide bomber.

His book takes readers on an inspiring journey from the time he lay helpless in a hospital resenting the incident that wiped out his dreams of becoming a 4-star general, to a man/husband/father who rekindled his faith with the help of his wife Tiffany.

Smiley, who lives in New York with his wife and two sons, commands the Warrior Transition Unit at West Point for ailing or wounded soldiers.
