I just wanted to express our sincere thanks to all you who have shared your prayers and well wishes with us. It has been about a month since my sister Ilda Islas and my niece Alex Islas were killed in an automobile accident. The reaction from the community has been incredible.

While the family has been trying to piece things back together, I have to tell you that it has been difficult in so many ways. Ilda was such a positive force in our family and Alex was simply a breath of fresh air when she walked into a room. While there is tremendous heartache with their loss, we have felt the caring embrace of our community -- this community that we love.

On this Thanksgiving, I want you to know that we still have many things to be thankful for. We have a strong family and commitment to our faith. But we also have you. We the Islas and Mendoza families would like to say thank you for your kindness and compassion. I know that my sister and Alex would be heartened by the incredible support that you have shown. Thank you.
