My vote for president a week ago was virtually useless. The same is true for most of us except those to live in the nine or ten states that were in play. So, should the Electoral College be eliminated? In a word, no. A much better way would be to have each state apportion the vote, based on who wins each congressional district. Nebraska and Maine already do something like this. Maintaining the Electoral College also protects the interests of small-population states. The other two votes (each state has two senators) could be assigned based on which candidate wins the most congressional districts or by popular vote count for the whole state.

The Washington State Legislature should take a serious look at this before 2016. This would certainly make voting more meaningful for most of us and force the politicians to stop bombarding places like Ohio and Florida.
